Authorization essentials

Form 4506-C. Prepare a clearer transcript request.

Use this preparation guide alongside the current IRS form and instructions to organize the request before it reaches the taxpayer.

Complete the request before signature. The taxpayer should be able to understand the recipients, records, and periods being authorized.

What Form 4506-C is for

Form 4506-C is the IVES Request for Transcript of Tax Return. It is used to request tax information through an authorized IVES participant.

Use the IRS-hosted form and its current instructions as the controlling reference. This page helps your team organize its review; it does not replace the form or establish your institution’s requirements.

A preparation checklist for the file

Organize the request in the same order your team will review it. Confirm these items against the current IRS instructions before seeking a signature.

  • Taxpayer names, identification details, and relevant addresses
  • The IVES participant and the client that will receive records
  • The requested tax form and transcript category
  • The tax years or periods required
  • The applicable signer, signature, date, and authority

Make the scope understandable to the taxpayer

Explain why the lending team is asking for the records and where the requested periods fit the file. Give the taxpayer an opportunity to review the request accurately before signing.

The IRS tells taxpayers to check their information, participant and client contacts, transcript types, and requested years. The taxpayer’s approval is a substantive part of the process, rather than a general permission to retrieve any financial record.

Treat signature review as part of preparation

The IRS form instructs taxpayers to sign only after applicable fields have been completed. It also specifies that the IRS must receive the form within 120 days of signature. Check the current instructions for the signature and authority requirements that apply to the request.

Keep your internal preparation date, signature review, and request tracking aligned. A missing item should produce a clear next action for the file, not an assumption that authorization is complete.

Keep sensitive information in the right workflow

Prepare and exchange completed forms through the institution’s approved document workflow. Public sales inquiries and pricing tools are for product questions, not taxpayer identifiers, completed authorizations, or financial records.

If your team is evaluating Fintegral, start with the IRS product page, pricing, and institutional setup. Real records require the applicable approved access and authorization process.
